You get what you deserve

Do you believe in karma?  The idea that you get what you deserve, and if you do something wrong you’ll be punished for it?  This is a really common concept that is talked about a lot, the idea of right and wrong and good and bad and punishment etc.

You get what you deserve?

It is not something that sits comfortably with me.  I think that in some ways yes you do get what you deserve, but not in the way that implies that if something bad happens to you then you asked for it.

I think you get what you work for.  And you get what you focus on. If you are the kind of person who is always feeling jealous of other people’s success and putting yourself down then you are unlikely to achieve the success that you maybe could.

However, if you are someone who bounces out of bed each morning feeling grateful for what they have, determined to be successful in your day and positive then you are way more likely to get the success that you’re working for.

So in some ways yes I believe in karma.  But mostly, I don’t.

Not every bad thing that happens to you is your fault.  Imagine if this were true, then good people would never get cancer, or find themselves homeless.  Bad people would not be millionaires, slim and happy with their lives.

Telling someone that they caused the tragedy in their life is quite frankly offensive, don’t you think?

The last thing anyone wants to hear when they are going through a difficult stage in their life is that they caused it in some way.  I do believe that everyone creates their own future, but I also know that sometimes bad things happen for no reason whatsoever.

The rules that I try and live my life by are to be kind and not to hurt anyone.  I like to be a good person and I like to help as many people as I can every day.

I like to think that I’m a good person, yes I make mistakes and sometimes things don’t go according to plan but I never blame this on karma.  If I make a mistake I try to fix it, learn from it and ensure that I don’t make the same mistake again.

You can do the same.  Try and live your life by the rules of not hurting anyone, having a positive impact each day and changing people’s lives.  No matter how busy you are and how much work you have to do I honestly believe that everyone can find time each day to have a positive impact or influence on somebody else’s life.

What are you going to do today to reach out and help someone?  I’d love to hear from you.
