Know your numbers

Know your numbers

Does that sound like the kind of advice that your accountant would give you? I donโ€™t just mean your finances (although this is hugely important as well) but I mean the numbers from your online business.

I check my numbers every day (both stats and finances) and Iโ€™m convinced that doing this is one of the reasons that Iโ€™ve been able to grow so much over the years.

Hiding your head in the sand is not an effective way to manage your business. You have to be in control of the basics so that you know when youโ€™re having a problem and you can do something about it before it becomes a serious issue.

Here are the main numbers that I check every day :

Business bank account – Have your invoices been paid on time, do you have suppliers that you need to pay? is everything as you expect it to be?

Paypal – Have you received any payments that you werenโ€™t aware of? Has anyone asked for a refund, have your fees been taken out correctly?

Google Analytics – Understanding where your traffic comes from, how long people stay on your website for, where your traffic is coming from and having goals set up so you can see how it’s performing, what pages they are looking at is hugely beneficial when you are looking to grow your business.

Facebook groups – I look at my Facebook groups every day to see if anyone has tagged me or asked a question that I might be able to answer.

Email software – I check to see who has unsubscribed, how many people subscribed the previous day and the open rates on my emails that I send out every day.

What kind of numbers and stats are you checking in your business every day?

Do you even know where to start?

Before you set goals I recommend you look at your stats for a month and keep a record of what is a normal baseline for you. This way you can decide where you can make improvements and what you can do to get more traffic where you need it, improve the conversions on your website, reach more people in your scale media posts etc.

If you donโ€™t look at your numbers for weeks on end then youโ€™ll find it hard to see where any improvements could be made. Being aware of where you are and what your numbers say is the best way to grow your business.

If youโ€™d like some help in knowing how to work out where you business stands at the moment and where you can make improvements then Iโ€™d love to talk to you. You can book a free strategy call here if you feel that youโ€™re in the right place for more help. My coaching packages are great for those people who are ready to step up and take action.

Looking at your numbers doesnโ€™t have to be scary. You need to know where you are so that you can work out where to go. Thatโ€™s the best piece of advice youโ€™ll receive all day!
